HANDSHAKE HOOP RELAY

Mildly active

AGE and NUMBER: Any number of any age, if accustomed to running.

NEEDED: One embroidery hoop per team.

Team game - no prize. (Unless each individual on the winning team gets a prize.)

Organize players into line formation with teams facing each other. Give the first player in each line an embroidery hoop which he slips over his right hand onto his wrist.

At the signal to begin, No. 1 turns to No. 2 and vigorously shakes his hand causing the hoop to move over to No. 2's wrist. The hoop is passed by handshake to the end. The last player runs to the head of the line and starts the hoop down again.

The first team with players back in original place WINS.

BALLOON HOP RACE

Strenuous

For young people in excellent physical condition.

NEEDED: Start Line and Finish Line 50-75 feet apart.
One balloon for each person.
One 24" piece of string for each balloon.
One prize.

DIRECTIONS: Each player is given a balloon to inflate and a piece of string to tie to the balloon. He/she ties the string around his/her ankle leaving at least 12" of string between leg and balloon. Contestants line up on the starting line.

At a signal, players hop to the finish line. A broken balloon eliminates the contestant. A player may rest anywhere along the course by putting his "balloon foot" to the ground. Any contestant may at any time hop on another person's balloon to break it and eliminate that player.

The WINNER is the first one to cross the finish line with balloon intact.

ORANGE UNDER CHIN PASS

Semi-active

Any number of any age can play, if used to physical activity. Divide contestants into circles according to height.

NEEDED: One orange per circle. Two prizes.

DIRECTIONS: Children place orange under chin and pass it to one another without using their hands. Hands should be clasped behind back. When orange is dropped, both players passing orange are eliminated.

WINNERS are the last couple who have not dropped the orange.

CUP and HAND BALANCE

Semi-active

Any number of any age, if used to physical activity. Divide children into two even sized groups. Different sized and aged children should be equally divided between groups.

NEEDED: Starting line and parallel line about 20-35 feet apart. One styrofoam cup per team. A pail filled with water.

Team game - no prize. (Unless each individual on the winning team gets a prize.)

Groups line up in files. First child in each line is the Captain. Give the Captain of each team a cup of water to balance on the back of his right hand or the left if he is left handed.

At the GO signal, Captains walk (or run if they dare) to the far line and back balancing the cup on their hand with the other hand behind their back. If the cup falls during the trip, each player must refill it from the pail and make the trip again. Each player upon completing the trip places the cup on the hand of the next player and goes to the end of the line.

The first team with its Captain back in his original place WINS.
