| PREPARATION FOR STENCILING | |||||||
| PREPARATION OF SURFACE TO BE STENCILED: Fabric should be clean and ironed if necessary. If new, fabric should be washed to remove sizing. Walls or woodwork should be clean and smooth. Stencil paint should agree with wall or woodwork paint, i. e., should not dissolve paint or finish. Wood, glass, ceramic or metal surfaces should be clean, dry and smooth. PLACEMENT OF STENCIL DESIGN: If design is to be repeated, careful measuring and marking of fabric, wall, etc. with masking tape or chalk is necessary. This step may take longer than the actual stenciling. It is just as important. Since every project is different, you must decide how much space between repeats of stencil design is appropriate, and mark accordingly. PREPARATION OF BRUSH FOR STENCILING: Place small amount of paint on waxed paper. Holding brush vertically in fist, rub it in paint until the paint is well distributed through bristles, but no more than half way to top of bristles. Next, rub the bristles on the clean newsprint until they are almost dry. Hold brush sideways as well as vertically to rub off extra paint on the sides of the brush. Now you are ready to stencil. |
