MY STENCIL BOOK

DIRECTIONS FOR TRACING AND CUTTING

TRACING: Print stencils. Cut out stencils, leaving approx. 1/4" margin around edges. Tape each stencil to clean, flat surface. Place Mylar over each stencil, with edges over border lines of stencil. Trace each opening with marker pen.

REGISTRATION MARKS: The black dots in each corner of stencil are for registration, that, is, making certain that layers of stencil will be correctly placed. Carefully cut out black dots. When stenciling first layer, mark through dot openings with chalk. With successive layers, match dot openings to chalk marks.

CUTTING: Place glass or cardboard cutting surface on steady table, making certain that it cannot slip. Tape Mylar to cutting surface. (Some people prefer to leave the stencil loose so that they may turn it instead of, or in conjunction with, the knife. Curves are sometimes easier to cut this way.) Cut along a ruler for straight lines. Hold craft knife like a pencil. Change blade before it becomes dull.

Cut small shapes our first. If a "bridge" is accidentally cut through, place masking tape over the tear and cut the tape to the shape of the stencil.

SPECIAL DIRECTIONS FOR TEDDY: For Teddy's mouth, cut slightly above and below line on stencil, or hand paint mouth when stenciling is finished and dry.
